CHENREZIG
a
truly beautiful painting of Chenrezig. This
painting is top quality, painted by a modern
master in Nepal. Done according to the very
concise iconographical stipulations of the
Vajrayana (Tantric) Buddhist tradition, the
artist's use of color somehow adds a very
soothing quality to this very important subject.
We have put some additional detail shots beneath
the main photo above. Its tough to capture the
stunning detail in this painting. As usual we
guarantee that if you like this painting in the
photos shown here, you will absolutely love it
in person, when you can see all the subtleties
in their full splendor. By the way, the gold
highlights are done with paint containing real
gold.
Chenrezig is the bodhisattva of compassion. In
fact, one could say that Avalokiteswara
(Sanskrit for Chenrezig) is enlightened
compassion personified. There is a rich oral and
scriptural legacy, describing Chenrezig, his
acts and deeds, and the sadhanas or spiritual
practices that relate to him. Their Holinesses,
the Karmapa and the Dalai Lama, as well as other
esteemed personages from Tibetan religious
history are considered emanations of one or
another of the forms of Chenrezig. Chenrezig
embodies the compassion of all the Buddhas - and
that is an almost unfathomably profound
statement. The fact that Chenrezig is the patron
deity of Tibet says a lot about the very evolved
aspirations of the nation and its people.
The Mantra of Chenrezig is the well known, "Om
Mani Padme Hung". Repetition of this mantra has
a vibrational effect, inducing compassion in the
mind stream of beings. The practical
applications of this practice and the
visualization of Chenrezig have never been more
apparent.
