A very
impressive image of Vajrasattva (Dorje
Sempa) in consort with the wisdom essence
Dorje Nyema. It is a modern lost wax image
from Nepal, cast in copper with full gold
gilt finish. Each figure is shown with one
face, and two arms. He holds the dorje and
bell, while she holds a skull cup and
kartika, with legs entwined around Dorje
Sempa. They are both adorned with jewels and
gold ornaments.
Vajrasattva,
known in Tibetan as Dorje Sempa, is
primordially free, pure Buddha wisdom
personified. Dorje Sempa holds a very
significant place in Tibetan Buddhism. This
is due in large part to the fact that the
ngondro, or preliminary practices focused on
him are of primary importance, and with
minor variations, they're common to all the
major schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
