RINPOCHE
These prayer flags were printed with a wood
block of Guru Rinpoche, also known as
Padmasambhava. Guru Rinpoche is credited with
firmly establishing the Buddha Dharma in Tibet.
Other Buddhist masters had come to Tibet before
him, but they were facing constant obstacles,
and Padmasambhava whose reputation as a tantric
adept of unsurpassed realization and power
preceded him, was invited to come to the Land of
Snows.
This he did, and it wasn't long before he had
subdued all obstacles, and the precious Buddhist
tradition was able to firmly take root in Tibet.
Monastic centers were established and people
began to practice the Vajrayana teachings. The
same teachings, it should be added, that still
flourish -- all passed down in uninterrupted
lineages to this day.
The importance of Guru Rinpoche, cannot be
overstated. Known as the second Buddha,
Padmasambhava is the one who made it all
possible where Tibetan style tantric Buddhism is
concerned, and for this he understandably
remains the object of intense veneration.
