Mantra
Ring
The
Tibetan Buddhist mantra or prayer featured here
is, "Om Mani Padme Hung", which is the
six syllable mantra invoking the deity,
Chenrezig (Sanskrit = Avalokiteswara), who is
the embodiment of compassion. Tibetan Buddhists
consider His Holiness the Dalai Lama to be an
emanation of Chenrezig. This mantra seems never
far from the lips of devout Tibetans and is the
same prayer which is most often found in prayer
wheels, not to mention being painted and carved
in stone all over Tibet and the Buddhist
Himalaya.
This
mantra ring is sterling silver, while the mantra
or prayer is written in an ornate style script
and gold plated. This script is very common and
used in Buddhist ritual art throughout Tibet,
Nepal and wherever Tibetan Buddhism is
practiced.
The
larger rings (#60008 and # 60009) have the
tantric symbol known in Tibetan as the "dorje"
placed on each side of the mantra. These rings
are adjustable and in addition to the excellent
workmanship and precious metals, it is a very
affordable piece of quality devotional jewelry. |
